High Tech Cabin Update with ChatGPT Coming to Volkswagen Crafter • Professional Download

Volkswagen Crafter 2024 Professional Van 01

Volkswagen is giving its large Crafter van a facelift, with a significant interior update including a digital dashboard and chatbot integration.

The driver's view has been completely redesigned, with a 10.3-inch (or optional 12.9-inch) infotainment screen — borrowed from Volkswagen's latest passenger cars — placed in the center of the dashboard, balanced by a fully digital steel binnacle. Perhaps less exciting, the same touch-sensitive slider controls for cabinet temperature and audio volume are present, four guaranteed separation in production vehicles.

Volkswagen it also includes voice controls, with ChatGPT's artificial intelligence promising to add an extra layer of understanding to respond to context.

Elsewhere, the handbrake has been replaced by an electric shifter, and vans with an automatic gearbox benefit from a column-mounted gear selector, freeing up more space in a redesigned cabin that already offers more storage space.

Safety technology has also been improved, with automatic emergency braking for cyclists and pedestrians, lane keeping assist, road sign recognition, speed limiter and rear parking sensors fitted as standard across the range.

The van's exterior doesn't appear to have been changed, and we don't expect any mechanical changes to the Volkswagen Crafter, but the interior update is very welcome.

Volkswagen dealers will begin taking orders in April, and are expected to deliver the first orders in the summer.
