Ford Performance has introduced the F-150 Lightning Switchgear, a new high-performance electric vehicle designed for both on- and off-road use. The vehicle, based on America's best-selling F-150 Lightning electric truck, is the result of a collaborative effort between Ford Performance and RTR Vehicles. The F-150 Lightning Switchgear design was inspired by the 2016 F-150 RTR Ultimate Fun-Haver project car. It features exterior carbon bodywork adorned with Ford Performance 2024 livery.

The F-150 Lightning Switchgear is part of Ford Performance's Demonstrator program, which includes notable vehicles such as the SuperVan 4.0 and 4.2, the Mustang Mach-E 1400, the Mustang CobraJet 1400, and the F-100 Eluminator. The program aims to test the potential of electric vehicles and serves as a platform for engineers to rapidly develop future electric vehicle technologies.

The vehicle is designed to push the limits of electric trucks, offering more track width for better off-road stability, improved ground clearance, and improved suspension travel. It has FOX 3-inch internal diameter bypass shock absorbers, different front and rear bumpers for better approach and takeoff angles, and a suspension system that includes a double wishbone independent suspension in the front and a multilink independent suspension in the rear.

Additional F-150 Lightning Switchgear features include carbon composite front fenders, bed sides, and rear bumper cover, as well as steel rock rails and a front skid plate for off-road protection. The car is equipped with NITTO Ridge Grappler 37 × 12.5R18 tires and a unique racing rack that holds two spare wheels and tires.

The public will have its first chance to see the F-150 Lightning Switchgear at the King of the Hammers off-road racing event, which begins on January 25 in Johnson Valley, California.
