Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo 2023 Professional Van

Most UK van drivers now accept that electric vans are cheaper to run than their petrol or diesel rivals.

More than two-thirds of LCV drivers surveyed in a Volkswagen Commercial Services survey also said that EVs would suit their business and daily work needs. Almost one-third (29%) of respondents said the expansion of the ULEZ in London was a driving force for change in the energy sector.

The survey also showed that there is a growing recognition of the benefits of switching to electricity, while some barriers to adoption persist. Almost three-quarters of van drivers say reliability is no longer a reason not to buy an electric vehicle, but charging time is still the biggest concern when buying an electric van, with 57% worried about running out of time.

“There is no doubt that UK businesses are seriously considering when and how to transition to EVs,” explains Craig Cavanagh, national fleet manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. “Van drivers see the benefits, not only from a sustainability point of view, but also from the point of view of being cheaper than petrol and diesel models. This is especially true for those in or around London, following the growth of the ULEZ area and the Mayor of London's scheme fund.

“Our first factory-built, all-electric van Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo – provides a modern mobility solution for this specific purpose, and we are encouraged to see van drivers adopting sustainable solutions.”

Volkswagen currently has Spring Sales Offer for ID Buzz Cargo customers, with monthly rates starting from £379 per month on a three-year Business Contract Hire agreement, before VAT.
