Uber Strike Ends Valentine's Day in Major Cities

Uber strike

You may notice a lack of drivers for Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash on Valentine's Day. Ride share drivers are on strike at major airports.

You might have a hard time getting home on February 14, also known as Valentine's Day. Uber drivers are on strike, so the line of trucks and SUVs waiting to pick you up might not be there. See why ride-share groups are protesting.

Uber and Lyft strikes shut down airport rides

Plan your Valentine's Day activities ahead of time because you may need to ask someone for a ride. Ride-share drivers from Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash are on strike to demand better pay and working conditions.

The strike will be held at airports in the following cities:

  • Austin
  • Chicago
  • Hartford
  • Miami
  • Newark
  • Orlando
  • Philadelphia
  • Pittsburgh
  • Providence
  • Tampa

Staff at this location will be refusing boarding to and from the airport between 11am and 1pm on February 14. This may make it difficult for many visitors to get home and celebrate Valentine's Day.

Also, it can make it challenging for some people who don't have other options to make their flight in advance.

Reportedly, ride-hailing groups have shared that while Silicon Valley and Wall Street are taking an ever-increasing share of drivers' earnings, they are raising fares and expecting consumers and workers alike to accept the company's growing greed.

It is reported that Uber shared that strikes rarely affect business and cattle. Lyft explained that it is constantly working to improve the driver experience and that is why it has released a series of offers and commitments to increase the payment and loyalty of drivers.

Lyft recently announced that it will ensure that drivers make 70% or more of fares and out-of-pocket expenses each week.

The average hourly wage for Lyft drivers in the second quarter of 2023 was $21.44 while Uber drivers made about $18.80.

The white papers revealed that Lyft drivers make $30.68 per hour while Uber drivers make about $33 per hour. But how much time is spent per hour without picking up passengers?
